The government has announced that to raise standards of household heating and improve energy efficiency as part of their Clean Growth Strategy, all new Combi boiler installations must comply with the new Boiler Plus scheme.
As from the 6th April 2018, the Boiler Plus scheme will be part of the Building Regulations and to comply, one of these four options must be included with the installation: –
• Flue gas heat recovery system
• Weather compensation
• Load compensation
• Smart heating controls.
In addition, the Regulations state that gas boilers must be set at 92% ErP which will help to reduce carbon emissions. For further advice on the Boiler Plus scheme and prices for either replacement or new heating installations, please contact us.

Peter offers advice about how to keep warm this winter, whilst keeping your heating bills down, and also information on apps and how you can keep an eye on your heating system from a distance - or, for peace of mind, those of an aged relative or friend.
Be sure to check out both the advertisement and what Peter had to say below. If you’d like to watch the whole show, it will be running throughout January on Sky’s channel 256, with approximately 16 showings per week.

Anyone who uses gas in their home needs to be aware of the gas risks and how to keep safe.
The seventh annual Gas Safety Week will see organisations from across the UK working together, to raise awareness of the dangers of poorly maintained gas appliances, which can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.
Gas safety is important all year round, but it is not always a household’s top priority. Gas Safety Week - coordinated by Gas Safe Register - provides a platform for the gas industry, consumer organisations and individuals to focus all our communications about gas safety in one week, generating interest in the media and so having a greater impact amongst the public.

Gas Tag has launched its innovative gas safety app as they begin their mission to revolutionise gas safety in the UK, and stop non Gas Safe Registered fitters in their tracks.
The automatic engineer verification feature prevents unregistered gas fitters from recording any work through the system. This will stop rogue gas fitters in their tracks and create more jobs for qualified engineers, as only Gas Safe Register engineers can log in and record work through the system.
Engineers can also access the previous work history of each Gas Tag property via the FREE app. This helps identify and troubleshoot issues with appliances more quickly. All of the information is uploaded to a centralised portal where landlords, homeowners and housing associations can monitor the data through a cockpit-style dashboard.
The Gas Tag system does away with the current method of ‘locally-stored’ records and replaces it with the first ever independent UK database of geo-tagged, time-stamped and photo-verified evidence of all work carried out, via the use of the app on a smartphone – allowing the work to be monitored in real time from the Gas Tag Portal and so help keep people safe from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Designed with the help of Gas Safe Register engineers, industry leaders and user experience experts, the ground-breaking system has been heralded as “the most significant quantum leap in domestic gas safety compliance in 20 years” by Barry Sheerman, MP – The Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Carbon Monoxide.
Paul Durose, CEO of Gas Tag Ltd said: “This is an exciting time for Gas Tag. After two years in development, we now have the technology that will revolutionise gas safety and combat one of the biggest issues in our industry – rogue installers. Our mission is to drive illegal fitters out of business before they can put anybody else at risk from carbon monoxide poisoning – or worse. Together we can help the industry as a whole and create more jobs for the hard-working Gas Safe Register engineers who are committed to doing their job to the highest standard. There will be a number of announcements in the near future about our partnership agreements with housing associations and private landlords who collectively own or manage 1.5 million homes across the UK, and are already well underway in getting the Gas Tag system to cover all of their properties."
